What is DSIP?
Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide (nine-amino-acid chain: Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) first isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during sleep induction experiments by Swiss researchers. It’s produced in the hypothalamus and found in plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, and peripheral organs like the brain and rat tissues. DSIP is not a hormone but a neuropeptide that modulates sleep-wake cycles, stress responses, and neuroendocrine functions. Unlike sedatives, it promotes natural sleep architecture without classic pharmacologic sedation.
As of November 2025, DSIP remains a research chemical with no approved therapeutic uses. Early hype as a “sleep factor” has waned due to inconsistent human data, but it’s gaining traction in biohacking communities for recovery and addiction support.
